The Twinkles Story

I had started designing personalised ceramics with hand and footprints in 2005, initially to run as a small part-time business alongside my main part-time job.

2006 changed my life in a devastating way. My 15 month old son, Joe, died due to a heart condition known as Dilated Cardiomyopathy. He was our only child and nobody can explain how traumatic this time was. Life was as tough as I'm sure it could ever be and my priorities changed dramatically.

With the help of some very close friends we wanted to raise money for Manchester Children's Hospital where Joe was cared for, and my contribution came in hand painting 250 mugs with a special saying. Friends and Family sold them in their workplaces etc. and raised £1000. The total raised was £15000.

Painting those mugs helped me deal with the saddest days of my life and this made the passion I had for painting pots immense. Eventually my main job didn't turn out as I had hoped and I had a chance to launch Twinkles full time.

I started going into into playgroups, house parties, and play centres putting babies, children's and even adults hands & feet onto mugs, plates, photo frames etc., and eventually became a regular visitor to Boots, now covering several stores, nurseries, garden & home centres and many shops stock my non-print personalised gifts.

I could not have done any of this without the help of my Mum, whom I can never thank enough for everything and who you will see with me on some occasions. Along with my Dad, John, Husband, Anthony, & close friends, Twinkles has become a huge success and now has bookings up to a year in advance.

Me & Anthony had a beautiful precious daughter in 2007 – Lilly Grace who has definitely inherited Mummy’s creative side, & then in Aug 2011 our precious Son  Freddy Joe was born to finally complete Our Walsh Family. They both help me with my samples providing many hand & footprints  which you will often see on my finished display !

2013 saw the launch of Twinkles Silver – an amazing concept which involves taking prints , reducing them in size & handcrafting them into 99.9% pure silver.

These can be made into bracelet charms, necklaces, cufflinks , Keyrings or just a precious keepsake. Not only can this be made from prints but also Paw prints, childrens drawings, handwriting, photos & even those prints you may have from Nursery many years ago as well as In loving Memory prints.

Twinkles now have this website, facebook page, Twitter and an amazing loyal & much appreciated following.

You have all made what was a dream in memory of my son – a reality more than I can ever have imagined.

And lastly, that little star on each and every piece of pottery, is for my special little boy, who stays close to my heart, who I will miss forever and who inspired me to make Twinkles be what it is today

Thank you for reading how it all began.
